www.microsoft.com/hosting/en/us/licensing/splahowto.aspx KMS keys are no longer assigned to open chords, as the use of multiple activation keys is the preferred method for activation. “Microsoft partners who host under the Service Provider Licensing Agreement (SPLA) can use Windows Server and remote shutdown services to provide certain desktop features as a service. Under this solution, the partner is free to offer this service to any customer it chooses, whether or not it has a direct licensing agreement with Microsoft. However, it is important to note that SPLA does not support the provision of Windows 7 as a hosted customer or offers the ability to access Office as a service via Windows 7. Office can only be provided as a service if it is hosted on Windows Server and remote shutdown services”A KMS key is used to activate the KMS host with a Microsoft activation server and can activate up to six KMS hosts with 10 activations per host. Each KMS host can activate an unlimited number of computers. If not all RDS-CALs are displayed in the VLSC, you may have additional agreements that have not been entered into in your VLSC console. We recommend that customers use the Key Management Service (KMS) to activate multiple activation keys (MAK). KMS is the preferred activation method for large deployments. Many factors determine the number of activations related to each mak, including acquired licenses, price level and number of customers, and volume licensing program.

KMS requires a minimum number of physical or virtual computers in a network environment. These minimum requirements, called activation thresholds, are defined so that they can be easily met by the company`s customers. The number of activations available for a product may not correspond to the number of licenses purchased. As a general rule, you will receive more activations if you need to reinstall and activate some of your products. Please check the licensing preview section of your contract to see your number of licenses. This seems to be an extremely stupid question, we should have a number of remote laptop CALs, and in the volume licensing service center – the license summary seems to be at least some of them active. I have to enter the key into the RDP server, but I`m trying to find the product key for the user`s remote desktop CAL on VLSC. Can you see the product key on VLSC? How does Microsoft expect you to receive them? License compliance and asset management are independent of key activation. Customers should not use the keys provided by a specific license ID (agreement, registration, affiliate or license) for the licenses listed in this license ID.

This flexibility allows customers to manage their delivery image centrally, either by using agreement/licensing keys or using a set of keys for all.
