These lines from Katy Perry`s song “Agree to Disagree” show that just because you don`t agree with someone doesn`t mean you can`t have a friendly, romantic or even professional relationship. In fact, agreements and disagreements are part of any relationship. “I say that with the respect it deserves, but… is a great way to explain a disagreement, especially in a professional or formal environment. According to Common Core authors David Coleman and Susan Pimentel, “Students` knowledge and experiences can inform reading, but should not replace the attention to the text itself.” 2 Anticipation guides activate students` prior knowledge and prepare the stage for reading by first exploring text concepts. If you understand the content and socio-cultural knowledge that students bring to the task, you can adapt the teaching appropriately and get to know your students in a more authentic way. This phrase is used if you partially agree with certain points, but may not fully agree. This is perhaps one of the weakest formulations of English. Normally, people say it when they don`t really have to do something, but don`t see why they should oppose it.
This indicates a very strong consensus. Normally, people don`t take that sentence to the letter (word for word) and don`t really repeat what they just said. Brainstorming a food list with your class. They should go from simple to exotic. Then make a deck of cards for your students with a meal on each or let your students make their own cards. You should have enough kits for the four or five students in your class. To play this game of agreement and disagreement, divide your class into groups and let each group place its hidden cards in the center of the group. A person draws a card and makes a positive or negative statement about that food.
